Blessum Hearty

That is what my Alaskan cousins would say. I honestly do not remember a time Katie has ever fallen asleep watching tv. Poor thing had a double ear infection & upper respiratory infection earlier in the week. I guess that & the excitement of the holidays finally caught up to her.

Blessum hearty.

What Is It?

This girl loves her tinker toys! And she’s so creative!!! Everytime I turn around she has taken her last invention & turned it into something new.

This is the “marshmallow 3000″

Child Labor?

I think not. It’s funny how a tedious task to a parent seems like the ultimate fun to a child.

Chris was getting ready to go target shooting with a buddy. He uses paper plates with bright orange target stickers placed (almost) in the middle. Who would want to spend time placing a hundred or few hundred stickers on paper plates? Our kids!

They thorougly enjoy helping daddy with this task. And as long as he doesn’t mind a few being slightly out of place… I say go for it. Work hard kids!!

Mmm… Donuts Sure is Good

That is what Katie said after almost finishing a cream filled, chocolate covered éclair in the car on the way home!

Deflated Kickball Use #3

I suppose it was bound to happen.  Lately all kid toys eventually become PD toys whether we like it or not.  First William used this deflated kickball as a hat.   Next Katie used it as a “tuck” for her kitty.  Now it’s PD’s turn.  He absolutely loves this thing.  He plays with it like it’s a mouse.  Tosses it in the air and runs after it.  Runs around with it in his mouth, shaking his head back and forth.  This is the best dog toy ever!

So now that all of the younger Errett family members have found a different use for this, does that mean Chris and I should find uses for it, too?  Hmmm… this could get interestingly funny.

William’s First Report Card!!!

Oh my goodness.  I am just beaming from ear to ear.  :-D

So here’s the breakdown…

He mastered all of the 1st nine weeks mathematics skills.  He mastered all of the 1st nine weeks language arts skills.  His reading progress is above expected level.  His writing progress was marked at “invented spelling: records 2 or more sounds in a word.”  (of 10 levels to achieve by the end of the year, that’s level 7)

He got ALL S’s (satisfactory) for the entire performance ratings section.  (What the heck happened to E’s??? They can only get S or I for improvement needed.)  This includes P.E., art, music, theater arts… both skill & conduct.  He got ALL S’s in work/study habits and ALL S’s in listening/speaking skills.

He had zero absenses, so perfect attendance.  His teacher wrote “William is a joy to have in class.”  So basically he got a perfect report card!

Next there was a note from the school district saying that he was administered an assessment of reading skills.  The kids are given the DIBELS Assessment three times a year to diagnose the reading development and comprehension of students in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades.  Scores given are D “Developed” meaning the child will most likely have no problem learning to read with appropriate instruction… and SD “Still Developing” which means the child may need targeted instruction during the school year in order to achieve reading goals.  He was tested in two:

ISF: Initial Sounds Fluency… For example, the examiner shows 4 pictures & says, “This is sink, cat, gloves and hat. Which picture begins with sssss?” and the student points to the correct picture.  D would be scoring an 8… William scored 12.

LNF: Letter Naming Fluency… Students are shown a page of upper- and lower-case letters arranged in a random order and are asked to name as many letters as they can in one minute.  D would be scoring an 8… William scored 34!!!!

We are so proud of you, Buddy!

Already?

I’m out grocery shopping, dodging frazzled mothers who are dragging their sugar crazed hellions behind them when what do I see out of the corner of my eye?  That’s right folks, Christmas candy.  They didn’t waste any time this year.  Halloween is barely gone and St. Nick stops by your local grocery store to vomit up every conceivable item that you’ll never want in either red or green.

What Happened To All the Orange Candy!

What Happened To All the Orange Candy?

I have a feeling this is going to become an annual post for me.  Everyone always comments that holiday sales/decorations/annoyances start earlier and earlier every year.  Well, I’m going to start tracking them.  I already did it with Halloween so that will be the start.   I’ll include all of the important holidays like St. Patrick’s Day (green beer), Easter (Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs), System Administrator Appreciation Day (nothing, we’re always ignored), and the ever popular International Bacon Day (bacon!)

Wouldn’t Want to be Shimmery

Standing at the door to leave to walk William to school this morning, Katie was holding her pillow.

Mommy: “Katie we don’t take our pillow walking to school.”

Katie: “but I don’t want to get shimmery!!”

Mommy: “I don’t understand. How do you get shimmery?”

Katie: “Like when it’s cold and you go brrrr.”

LOL. She meant shivering! I love these cute times.
