While I am well aware that I carried them both for nine months and they were surgically removed from MY belly, these two rugrats I call my kids look sooo much like my husband that I have often joked about getting a maternity test done. Well… after six long years of waiting for conclusive evidence, the results are in and I am proud to say I am 100% William’s biological mother. (Unless scientists have somehow figured out a way to only clone the personality & not the body. But I’m relatively sure that hasn’t happened.)
William started taking showers on his own, in our bathroom, around the first of this year. It is amazing to watch him blossom into this independent little boy. The more tired he is before bedtime, though, the more he lollygags & piddlefarts around. (I just wanted to use those two words in a blog post.) Either Chris or I have to remind him to move it along so showertime doesn’t end up taking an hour.
Well one night this week I found him sitting naked on our bathroom floor while the shower was running. I said, “William, that’s wasteful. You need to get in the shower.” He replied, “but it’s not 40 yet.” “What do you mean it’s not 40 yet?” “When I count to 40, I know the water is the right amount of warm.”
That’s my boy!!! No one has ever told him to do this. We checked. It’s engrained in him! He stood there one night & counted until it was just like he likes it. Now he knows how long it takes our shower to warm up. He has done this every night since then.
Note to his future wife: he will most likely continue doing this for…
THE
REST
OF
HIS
LIFE
And there’s nothing wrong with that, Son.
Now I just have to wait for Katie’s tests to come back…

Whenever I tuck Katie into bed, the conversation inevitably turns into this…
Katie: “Mommy, is there gonna be school after this nap?”
Me: “Yes, sweetheart.” or “No, honey.” (depending on the day)
Katie after hearing yes: “Oh tartar sauce.”
Katie after hearing no: “Yahoo!”

I’m holding off on getting the kids Nintendo DS’s or letting them buy them for themselves. Why get them now when they’re still perfectly happy with their VTech VSmiles??
Mommy got to cook dinner in peace & (almost) quiet!

Hospital Contraband
I had ACL surgery yesterday and after a night in the hospital I wasn’t looking forward to my breakfast.
I take the lid off the plate and could swear I could hear the faint sound of a nearby church choir singing “ahhhhh.”
I’m letting the aroma fill the room while I type this. I’ll be noting this on the patient survey during checkout today and I’m looking for information on charitable donations to the hospital.
Seriously.

As most everyone knows (I think), we’re at the hospital today. Chris hurt his knee playing dodgeball on our last cruise. He’s having surgery to repair the ACL in his right knee with harvested tendon from his patella. (That’s why I’ve had time to catch-up on blogging! What better way to keep my mind occupied? Well… I tried to work, but the wireless here is sketchy. Having WordPress on my iPhone makes it easy to update our website though!) But back to the subject in the title…
As we were waiting for them to take him back for his operation, I noticed the second band on his arm. Chris thought I was kidding when I exclaimed, “How on earth is that band going to prevent you from falling???”

ROFLMAO! Gullable? Naive? Whatever you want to call it, I crack myself up sometimes.

Katie is getting good at writing and copying other’s writing. It’s cute that when she runs out of room, she just wraps it around and starts writing backwards. She kind of did that below with her signature. She knows how to spell her name, but this is how she prefers to “sign” things.
KA♥
Maybe she’ll have a designer line of bewners or something with the label of “KA♥” when she grows up. LOL

Chris and I are constantly talking about how William = me and Katie = Chris. The sexes are completely opposite of the personalitites. William is sensitive, mathematical, always wanting to impress… like me. Katie is strong-willed, does tasks on her own terms, extremely resourceful… like Chris.

You wouldn’t catch me letting a doodle bug crawl all over my hands though! No way!

William is always bringing schoolwork home. Sometimes I’m impressed… sometimes it’s the same old stuff and I just throw it out (gasp! I know!)… and sometimes I all out laugh.
Ever since the first day of school the kids have been counting up to the 100th day. In keeping with the theme of this date soon approaching, the schoolwork this day was to draw what you think you’ll look like when you’re 100 years old.

Good thinking. You probably will need a wheelchair. I’m not quite sure why your skin color would change though. LOL

William brought home some chalk artwork he did at school. I was pretty impressed with it. That’s a good looking plane!
…
Wait a minute. Is that plane on fire? Why is the plane on fire? What’s the guy doing?
…
William informed me he’s parachuting from the plane. Chris pointed out the guy seems to be extremely happy that he’s parachuting out of a burning plane. He also assures me it’s just a “boy thing.”

In William’s Kindergarten class they are working on reading and writing… “site words”, etc. This was a combination of all of that plus a little art.
