Today for lunch we went to Waterloo Icehouse with Chris’s brother, sister-in-law & their two boys. We thought it’d be great because they have a nice, huge playscape for the kids where we can sit and watch them.
After much waiting, our cold, stale food arrived. The kids weren’t too interested in eating, so they ran back out to play. I looked up and saw Katie at the top of the “ladder” with one foot on the landing… almost there. And I saw our nephew right behind her on his way up. I looked down to take a bite of my soup, and when I looked up Katie was on the ground and 2 other moms were running over to her.
Chris and I ran out there and she wasn’t moving… crying extremely loudly. We checked her out then rolled her on her back. She was a little quivery, probably from the shock. When we went to stand her up she said her foot hurt. I could tell it was swollen. Even candy couldn’t convince her to quit crying. Off to the ER we went. Luckily we had taken 2 cars to lunch… so Rob & Susan took William with them while we spent the afternoon with Katie.
She was soooo good! We didn’t have anything to entertain her while we were there. Luckily Mommy had fingernail polish in her purse. She sat nicely without us staying with her during her 3 x-rays. She has 2 hairline fractures in her left foot. We made it home about 2 hours later with her foot in a splint-type cast. Her little pink toes look kinda cute in it. She will see an Orthopedic later in the week to re-evaluate.

We have gotten to the point where every time we come to a particular corner with Katie in the car, we can predict the exclamation that will come out of her mouth:
“LOOK MOMMY!! A CIRCUS FOR CHRISTMAS TREES!!”

Here we go again… Katie went to bed coughing & with a runny nose. She woke-up in the night first with a peepee accident, then twice with throw-up.
She had a fever up to 102.2 You know it’s bad when the thermometer’s initial read is over 101. Usually it starts at 94 then climbs up slowly.
Needless to say, she’s at home today. And true to recent illnesses of hers, she fell asleep watching TV again. Poor little thing! Hopefully this will all be better after she has her tonsils out on January 7th.

I have to preface this story with the fact that William has been dying to go to one of YMCA’s Parents Night Out events. Every once in awhile they have a Friday or Saturday night where they keep the kids 5:30-10:30pm and watch movies, eat popcorn, have a magician or something… and the parents get to have a night out together. Everytime one of these rolls around William asks to go. We have yet to do this. They had one last Friday and Saturday evenings. We already had plans, so did not sign him up. I’m sure we will sometime soon if he continues on this awesome behavior kick.
Now to the real story.
Monday evening as I’m walking up the stairs to tuck William in bed, I hear him “singing” as he’s laying out his blankets just so. I hear:
I said a boom chicka boom
I said a boom chicka boom
I said a boom chicka boom
I said a boom chicka boom
Well, as you might guess, this naturally prompted me to swing the door open and jollily (is that a word) exclaim:
I said a boom chicka rocka chicka rocka, chicka boom
ROFLMAO! You should’ve seen the look on his face! He said, “DID YOU GO TO PARENTS NIGHT OFF???” LOL. Apparently he learned the chant at YMCA earlier in the day and was told this was something they had learned the previous Saturday evening. He thought I made him go to bed and I went to the event. HA! HA! HA!
After composing myself from the laughter, I said, “no, William. Mommy was in school once too. I think it was middle school when we learned that.” He thought about it for a minute, then said “wow. You were cool, huh?”
Yes, son… in your eyes, I suppose I was.

According to google that means “From the Artiste” in French. Katie has really shown quite an interest in art. It’s one of her favorite pasttimes. So much so that we enrolled her in Abrakadoodle classes at school. It’s amazing how her artistic abilities have become so detailed.
The other day she came home with a sculpture. When I asked her to tell me about it & what it was she started bawling!! Apparently the one that got labeled as hers actually wasn’t hers.
The next day we took it back to school & retrieved the correct one. Amazing! I love the little girl’s hair. And check out how she actually wrote in the book the little girl is holding.

I am laughing so hard right now. Get this. When William found out I tried to wake him up Tuesday in the middle night to show him it was snowing and I couldn’t get him to budge, this was his reaction:
“Why didn’t you spank me?”
HA!! HA!! HA!! Asking for a spanking? Wow. He *really* wanted to see it snowing!

William’s homework for the weekend was to decorate a snowman. The kids can do the homework as a family or not and are encouraged to be creative in selecting materials to use.
We started off by using googly eyes. Next we selected buttons for the nose & clothes. We spread out cottonballs to act as snow. We attached pipe cleaner arms. We made a pipe out of popscicle sticks. William drew the mouth & insisted it have teeth (one of which is missing LOL).
But what I found interesting was one of the first things he did. He colored in the hat. It went a little too low with the black. I asked if snowman’s hat was low over his eyes. William said no. It’s a mask. Alas the lone snowman. Hehehe

I am so not kidding. Yesterday we had a high of 81 degrees. Then at about 2pm the temp started dropping. By 8:30pm it was storming & 51 degrees. Icky but it was getting late so who cares, right?
At about midnight we were locking up the house to go to bed… letting dog out for last time, etc. Much to my amazement… IT WAS SNOWING!!! Big flakes! I called out for Chris who immediately said “no way.” He couldn’t believe it either! We had the air conditioner on earlier!
Chris said, “we’ve got to go wake up the kids!” to which I responded “really???” Sure enough he got Katie up. I tried but William wouldn’t budge. Katie was pretty groggy & didn’t respond much, but she remembered this morning.
I’m so glad she got to see it. And it was still there in the morning! I had been about to blog about the fact that Katie was going to have to cancel Christmas. Ever since Thanksgiving she has been asking if it is Thanksgiving time or Christmas time yet. I’ve been telling her Christmas time but she refuses to believe me. She claims you have to have snow days in order for it to be Christmas time. I tried to explain that might not happen in Texas, but she wouldn’t believe me. Guess she was right. It is now Christmas time.

At the birthday party we attended on Saturday, they had lasertag after the pizza & cake. This was a first for both kids.
Being that it was a party for a young boy, there were way more boys than girls in attendance. And of course the boys wanted the game to be boys vs. girls. To help out in the fairness department (and probably because they are young at heart too) a few adults added to the girl team.
Katie needed a little help with her “bewner”. (Ya. That’s what she calls it. Think about it & it makes sense. What noise does it make? Bewn! Bewn! LOL.) It was pretty heavy for a 4 year old. She got it though. And boy was she tough!! Both games they played she’d come running out of home base searching immediately for William.
I think being so young & little helped her too. She kinda flew under the radar & never once completely died. Funny thing is that the boys’ team lost both rounds.
Don’t be alarmed by the pictures. It’s just lasertag.
