Already?

I’m out grocery shopping, dodging frazzled mothers who are dragging their sugar crazed hellions behind them when what do I see out of the corner of my eye?  That’s right folks, Christmas candy.  They didn’t waste any time this year.  Halloween is barely gone and St. Nick stops by your local grocery store to vomit up every conceivable item that you’ll never want in either red or green.

What Happened To All the Orange Candy!

What Happened To All the Orange Candy?

I have a feeling this is going to become an annual post for me.  Everyone always comments that holiday sales/decorations/annoyances start earlier and earlier every year.  Well, I’m going to start tracking them.  I already did it with Halloween so that will be the start.   I’ll include all of the important holidays like St. Patrick’s Day (green beer), Easter (Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs), System Administrator Appreciation Day (nothing, we’re always ignored), and the ever popular International Bacon Day (bacon!)

Weekend Halloween Project #2

We were at it again on Sunday. These adorable ghosts are playing ring-around-the-rosie. The kids really enjoyed this project & I’ve already had people stop to tell me how cute they are! :-)

We took 6 dowel rods and drove them into the ground around a tree. Next we stuffed 6 small trash bags with 3 sheets each of crumpled up newspaper. I placed the stuffed bag on the dowel & used masking tape to attach it. This is the point at which Katie pretended they were gigantic lollipops. (which, of course, gave me an idea for Christmas)

Next it was time to cut 3, white, twin-sized flat sheets ($4 each at Wal-mart) in half. I draped them over each “lollipop” and tied string around their little necks. I then double-knot tied their corners together to look like they are holding hands. Lastly we used a permanant marker to draw faces on them.

Ever since we made them, Katie comes out every morning when we walk William to school & shushes us because we might wake the ghosts.

Weekend Halloween Project #1

I made these cute little ghosts one year before we had kids. As much as our children love “arts & craps”, I knew we’d have fun making them together.

I was feeling rather ambitious & decided to invite one of their little friends over to make one too. I took all 3 of them to Wal-Mart to shop for supplies. The friend was very well behaved… My kids not so much. But we all made it out in one piece.

When we got home the project began. We made little heads & arms out of aluminum foil. Then we attached them to 3-liters of soda. (Of course they each had to drink a little first.) I then ripped up a twin sized white flat sheet. The rest of the project took place outside. We dunked their sheets in liquid starch, draped them over the ghost bodies & left them to dry.

It only took about 2 hours in the Texas heat/sun and they were ready. Then I removed the bodies & they stand stiff on their own. I still need to add the googly eyes. Aren’t they cute??? I bet they would look even cooler on the front porch with a little light glowing underneath.
